How to Play Scrabble

How to Play Scrabble

To play scrabble you need to partner up with someone. Your pair needs to pick out 1 letter out from the bag, then the other players do the same. To know who goes first you have to organise the letters from alphabetical order. Then once you know the order, you then pick out 6 other letters. This game can help with learning new words, also it can help you come up with a word using letters that are given to you.

The first pair has to come up with a word using their 7 letters. Once they have done that it gets placed on the board. On the board there are squares which say double word or letter score, triple word or letter score. Then the other players do the same. While you're placing your words you have to think about them and see where they go. The first pair goes first and whatever word they choose e.g ‘fish’ then the other pairs have to make a word using the letters from ‘fish’.

On the tiles there are numbers that you count to get a score. You need to be smart about your letters because if you make a word using q or z you easily get 10 points. Also if you use all your 7 letters you get 50 points. In the bag there are some blank tiles, these tiles can make up for any letter in any word but it is worth nothing. In the bag there are a lot of vowels.

All the words you come up with, have to be English words. You are not allowed to use proper nouns. Also if someone makes a word and you can place a ‘s’ at the end, but if you can also make another word, you can add up their points with the words you have made.

At the end of the game each of the players have to calculate their score. The person with the highest score wins. Scrabble uses a lot thinking because you need to come up with words. Also it can be tricky because you have to use the letters that the other players have put on the board.
