My Jean Batten Report

Jean Gardner Batten

Jean Batten was a famous New Zealand aviator. She was a woman that broke many world records in flight.

She was born in September 15th 1909 in Rotorua New Zealand. She had three brothers but one died at birth. Her mum was an actress and her dad was a dentist.

She was playing piano until her dad took her to
flying museums and that’s how she got more interested into flight. She sold her piano to get her pilot's license. She flew from England to Australia. After flying back from England she had a little crash and her plane was destroyed so she went to a guy to try and sell her Gypsy plane to buy a Mono plane.
Jean Batten flew over France and Spain without landing. She also flew  from England to New Zealand and no one has beaten her in 40 years. She had been overseas to countries like India, England, Australia, Burma and Indonesia.

In Jean Batten’s life it was very sad because she found out that her fiance went missing and when the flight was located she saw that her husband was killed in a plane crash. So she went back to England and she was flying overnight to get her mind off her fiance.

Also when she was walking in the neighborhood she got bitten by a dog in Majorca Spain. She refused to see a doctor or go to the hospital so then she went back to her house and later on she died on November 22nd 1982. The bite got really infected. Also her parents didn’t know until 5 years later that she died.

People always remembered Jean Batten because of all her achievements and also she put New Zealand on the map. Also there is a statue of Jean Batten at the Auckland Airport.
