Procedural writing by Isabella

Procedural Writing (Instructional Writing)

Learning Intention (LI)

  • Look at a jumbled set of instructions and put them into the correct order (sequence them)
  • Look at the language used and be able to identify it (e.g  command verbs)
  • Use a variety of sentence starters
  • Use clear and explicit language

Success Criteria (SC)
  • Make a list of all the steps
  • Make sure all of the steps are in the right order and on new lines
  • Write all the directions as briefly and clearly as possible. Use a variety of words like first, begin, now and next (text connectives) or 1, 2, 3 etc as sentence starters
  • Use verbs as commands
1.     Put the following instructions into the correct sequence
2.     Highlight the command verbs in blue

Snakes and Ladders
Equipment
Snakes and ladders board
One dice
2-4 counters
Instructions for Snakes and Ladders
1.  Begin with the game pieces off the board, next to the number "1" space.

2     Have the first player roll the dice. That person then moves his game piece the number that he rolls on the dice.

3    Move around the board in number order. Move from Space 1 to 2 to 3 and so on until you reach Space 100.

4    Have the second player roll the die. She moves her game piece the number that she rolls on the die.

5       Move your piece up the ladder to the space where the ladder ends, if it lands exactly on a spot with the beginning of a ladder.

6         Reach space 100 by exact roll and win the game. For example, if you're one space away from Space 100, you must roll a 1 to win.
